Shenmue - Yokosuka: What were your first impressions upon recieving your imported copy of Shenmue II? Olly Dean: Happiness!! I couldn't wait and paid a lot for it but it's worth it. S - Y: Are there any major graphical improvements over the original Shenmue? If so, what makes it look better? OD: Everything is bigger than it was in Yokosuka. It's daunting when you first play it but you soon get used to it. The whole thing is brighter and more colorful than the last game, too. Just wait until you see Hong Kong lit up in neon at night. S - Y: One thing that made Shenmue such an instant classic was the original music soundtrack. How is the music in Shenmue II better or worse than the original Shenmue? OD: It's pretty much the same. All the major music is the same (the Tomato Mart has the same terrible music unfortunately) and the new stuff is in the same style. S - Y: Can you describe any new features that you like or dislike in Shenmu II? OD: I like that there's more action but I dislike that there are so many possible responses from you - it makes importing harder than with the original! S - Y: Rumors say the the Japanese voices are 'Squeaky'. What is your opinion on the character voices? OD: They're perfect - not robotic like the English voices and they all fit the characters fine, even with the NPCs. S - Y: Mini-games were a lot of fun in Shenmue. What mini-games in Shenmue II do you find the most fun to play? OD: All the arcade games - it has all the original ones as well as Afterburner 2 and Outrun, all of which are fantastic. Ryo's job is like a mini-game as well which is cool.
Warning! Spoiler ahead! OD: You see a brief scene with the opening credits of Ryo's ship coming into Aberdeen in Hong Kong, then he gets off and the game starts. Nothing big, and you get straight into the action. S - Y: Well, thanks for your time. We are honored to have the oppurtunity to interview you. |
