Shenmue II Shenmue II

  • Shenmue II will be four times longer, 10 times larger, and have three times the amount of characters.
  • Faster and more constant frame rate. Over 60 people can be displayed.
  • Much larger environments.
  • More QTE's that are dependent on your actions.
  • New "pass time" ability will allow you to skip the hours you have to wait between certain events.
  • Shenmue II will include four playable game discs.
  • Shenmue II's fourth disk has an ten minute video that summarizes the original Shenmue.
  • The game gets right into the action. It does not start off slow like the original.
  • The environments are bigger than ever, featuring detail not seen in any other Dreamcast game.
  • When indoors, attempting to make Ryo run will switch the game into a first person mode.
  • New chase mode added to the game, where Ryo will automatically follow a character. This will automatically be triggered, but you can follow regular people just by staring at them.
  • Ryo has an updated list of fighting moves.
  • New, better fighting system, enenmies can now pull out weapons like knives.
  • Only needs 22 blocks to save a game on a DC memory card.
  • If you put disc 2 in a CD-ROM drive there is character art of Lan Di and Gui Zhang
  • Enemies now have a visible energy meter during fights.
  • You can now fail a QTE, you do not repeat them until you pass them. If you fail, you will have to find an alternate path through the situation.
  • The Shenmue Digest feature will allow gamers to look at pictures from the original Shenmue and see all sorts of cool information.


  • Ryo will be able to purchase maps. He can purchase maps from a machine before he enters the area.




  • Ryo will be able to gamble. He can arm wrestle, play Size (a card game), and Dropping Ball (Pachinko).




  • Ryo will be able to sell his collection from the original Shenmue at a pawn shop. Selling a single item will bring less money than a collection of items.




  • Travel through breathtaking scenery in Hong Kong, Kowloon, and Guilin.
  • New navigational system allows you map out your current location and marks areas you visit.
  • Fight new enemies, gamble in Hong Kong alleys, and interact with a whole new cast of characters that will change your fate with every encounter.
  • Massive, highly-detailed 3D worlds allow you to fully interact with almost every facet of your environment.
  • The new "QTE Action Key" lets you ask questions that impact your interaction with other game characters, so you can progress through the game more efficiently.
  • Advanced Weather and Time Control technologies deliver a stunning, real-time world with moving 3D skies and changing terrain.
  • Enhanced FREE technology embraces delicate movements such as hair naturally swaying, lips moving in sync with voices, and detailed background reflections in eyes.
